Australian Olympian Brooke Buschkuehl, Sets Herself up for success with a Fitness Qualification through AIF.

Nov 10, 2022 | by AIF

Australian Olympian Brooke Buschkuehl (nee Stratton) has just graduated from the Australian Institute of Fitness (AIF) as a qualified Personal Trainer thanks to the AIF’s partnership with The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS).

Brooke is an Olympic Long Jumper, and current Australian record holder for the sport. Kicking off her career by competing in Little Athletics at age 5, she found her groove with Long Jump and pursued this ever since. Now, at 29 years of age, with an incredible result at the Tokyo Olympics under her belt (7th place), Brooke is looking to add some other skills to her repertoire.

As an Athlete with the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) and through their partnership with AIF, Brooke was provided with a Scholarship to study the ‘SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness’ through AIF known as the Master Trainer Program™. Studying whilst competing at a professional level can be difficult, but Brooke was committed to finding the time in between her hectic schedule to gain her PT qualification via AIF’s Online Modality of the course, and open up more pathways for her career.

When asked why she decided to study fitness alongside her sporting career, Brooke said, “I decided to study the Cert IV because I want to become a personal trainer and possibly work in a gym. Hopefully in the long run my husband and I can start our own business. I’m passionate about health and fitness and would like to see others reach their health goals.”

Speaking about her experience of the online modality of the AIF Master Trainer Program™, Brooke stated; “I thoroughly enjoyed studying online with AIF; It was a great experience. Studying online allowed me to balance my study and my training and be flexible.” When asked what her favourite part of the course was, she replied; “My favourite part was actually taking clients through exercise plans and implementing the knowledge I had learnt into practice.”

AIF will be following Brooke’s journey as she enters the fitness industry, ensuring she feels supported every step of the way.

AIF currently has a few other VIS athletes completing their fitness qualifications alongside their sporting commitments thanks to the partnership established between the two organisations in 2021. AIF’s Communications and Partnerships Coordinator, Molly Fabri added; “Our partnership with the Victorian Institute of Sport allows us to open up additional career opportunities for these athletes, whilst also inspiring and encouraging everyday Australians to pursue a career in the fitness industry. We look forward to what the next year in partnership will look like for AIF and VIS!”
